Biography

 

David Catterall is a highly accomplished Music Director, Pianist, and Flautist based in Sydney, Australia. He holds a Bachelor of Music Studies degree, with a major in Flute, from the prestigious Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

With years of experience in the industry, David has established himself as a sought-after professional répétiteur for the Sydney Philharmonia Choirs. He most recently contributed to their production of The Golden Age of Broadway at the iconic Sydney Opera House.

David is also deeply committed to developing a pathway for musical theatre talents in Hawkesbury. He is the president and co-founder of Fantasia Showstoppers, a youth community theatre group that provides invaluable musical theatre opportunities for young performers in Western Sydney. Under his leadership, Fantasia Showstoppers has successfully produced several shows including Moana Jr, Shrek Jr and Frozen Jr, with the cast of Shrek Jr receiving a trophy for Excellence in Singing at the Junior Theatre Festival in 2022. David's vision is to create a supportive and inclusive environment where young performers can hone their skills, build confidence, and pursue their passion for the arts.

In addition to his work with Fantasia Showstoppers, David has collaborated with several independent theatre companies in Sydney, including serving as a pit musician for Limelight on Oxford's production of Company, as well as Assistant Music Director for Little Triangle's production of Anyone Can Whistle. He also worked as Assistant Music Director and pit musician for RPG Productions' production of Stalker: The Musical.

In pursuit of his passion for music and commitment to excellence, David traveled to the USA in 2023 to pursue professional development opportunities with Broadway music directors, including Daniel Mertzlufft and Rob Rokicki. He also attended workshops at the international Junior Theatre Festival in Atlanta and collaborated with Vanjie Gunn at Disney’s Imagination Campus in California.

David's exceptional musical talent and ability to work collaboratively with directors, choreographers, and performers are highly regarded in the industry. He is committed to building community through the arts and inspiring young performers to pursue their dreams.
