My name is David Catterall and I was born in Mudgee, New South Wales in 1991. My music training began in Western Sydney where I started keyboard lessons at the age of 6. Following a move to Bathurst, I stopped keyboard to begin flute lessons at the age of 10 with Wendy Byles. It wasn’t long before I recommenced piano lessons with Michelle Griffin when I began secondary school.
By the end of High School, I had achieved my AMusA Diploma (AMEB) in flute with the support of Naomi Halls and Alexa Still, and the following year I received my Certificate of Performance (AMEB) in piano under the guidance of Jenny Hammond.
In 2010, I commenced Tertiary studies of music at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, majoring in flute under the tutelage of Alexa Still and Alison Mitchell. I completed my studies in 2014 earning my Bachelor of Music (Studies).
I currently tutor full time in flute and piano at various schools around Sydney as well as at my home studio. Students taught range from the ages of 4 through to 97. I regularly write and record my own music which can be found on my Facebook page and Soundcloud.
In my spare time, I enjoy performing in Musicals. My favourites include The Sound of Music (2016) and Nine (2013) with Richmond Players, Beauty and the Beast (2014) and The Wizard of Oz (2013) with Bathurst Carillon Society, Barnum (2008) with St Paul’s Grammar School and Treasures of Gilbert and Sullivan (2011) with Blue Mountains Musical Society.
I take great pride in my involvement with the Beijing 2008 Olympic Orchestra on flute, thanks to my membership with the Millennium Marching Band. This band provided many opportunities for me including performances at the Sydney Royal Easter Show, ANZAC Parades and Schools Spectacular.
